Lorcana cards come in four play-time types. Characters are the workhorses of any deck — they enter the board, can be exerted to quest for lore, and challenge enemy characters in combat. Actions resolve a one-time effect when played from hand and then go to the discard pile; many of the format's most powerful interactive plays are Actions, including all of Lorcana's Songs. Items stay on the board and provide recurring effects each turn (drawing cards, generating ink, healing damage). Locations are a separate board zone — your characters can quest from them for additional lore each turn.
