Is Grading Lorcana Cards Worth It? A Cost Checklist

Separate your collecting goal from resale

Decide whether you want the card protected and labeled for your collection or whether you expect to sell it. Those are different decisions. A sentimental favorite can be worth preserving to you without needing a claim that grading will produce a profit.

List every cost

Include the service charge, insured shipping both ways, intermediary fees if any, and selling costs. Check current service availability, value limits, and turnaround estimates directly with the grader. Those terms can change.

• Time without access to the card

Compare more than the best case

Find comparable raw sales and sales at several plausible grades for the same printing. Work out the net proceeds for each, then compare them with selling raw. A hypothetical 100 sale after 15 of selling costs and 40 of submission costs leaves 45 before accounting for the card itself. The example illustrates costs, not a market quote.

Inspect and document the card
